  • November 7

This class will be an in-depth exploration of the wisdom of Teilhard De Chardin, Meister Eckhart, St. Francis of Assisi, and Thomas Merton, and will study mtheysticism that leads us to living life with purpose and meaning. We will go into the depths of our inner soul and its importance of how we live our lives, and into the depths of the society we live in and how it can distract us from our inner journey. We will discern the many illusions that keep us from renewing our lives and moving forward into a brighter future. We will explore in depth the concept of God and how it can lead us to our inner soul or if misunderstood can hinder the process. Overall, we will explore the question in depth of "How then shall we live" in a world that appears to be collapsing? All six classes are connected to each other as one leads to the other. I ask those who want to attend to bring your authenticity, your hearts and minds, and your inner jewels with you as they will be important in our "exploration of who we really are".

Trauma and the Faith Community

Trauma-Informed Care; Adverse Childhood Experiences; Building Resilience.

Understanding these terms are important for everyone - especially those in the Faith Community. Research and science are giving us a different lens to see the people that are all around us. It helps us ask the question "What happened to you?" vs "What is wrong with you?" It is about relationship and compassion. It is about understanding people. It is about seeing their needs through their behaviors. It is about how we - God's Church - can help.

Our Keynote Speaker is Dr. Franki Appleby. With 25 years in the mental health field, Dr. Franki is a minister-teacher, author, lecturer, educator, and conference speaker specializing on the subjects of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Trauma-Informed Care.

Dr. Appleby will be joined by main session speakers: Terrilyn Miller, Director of Faith, Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family; and Rebecca Hamlin, LCSW - Soul Space

Cost is $35 per person and includes lunch and three breakout sessions. Registration will close October 28.

"Medication and Aging: More is Not Better" Course

As we age, medications that were previously prescribed may not be appropriate or may need a reduced dose. New medications must be added with care. As our anatomy and physiology change, our reaction to medications also changes. As we age, we tend to accumulate more medications from more prescribers. Medications themselves can be a cause of illness and premature death. By knowing more about how medications can negatively affect our health, and how their interaction with each other can cause problems, we may prevent avoidable complications and keep ourselves healthier.

Join us for our eventful Christmas Concert Fundraiser. This is a fundraiser for the Southern Arizona Women’s Chorus, Hope City Church, and Via de Dios.

As the premier women's chorus of Tucson, the chorus strives to sing quality music that showcases the women's voices and fulfills their desire to entertain. Performances have included such music as the late Baroque period "Missa de Profunctis" on the same program as Broadway medleys, or Spanish folksongs and jazzy samba. The music is extremely diverse and sometimes very difficult. However, the women find that learning the music in a fun and encouraging environment keeps them coming back for more. Their reward is realizing something previously thought impossible. Singing with this chorus provides a deep sense of accomplishment and a sense of belonging that comes from the caring and support these women extend to each other.

Tickets are just $20 at the door, or can be purchased in advance.

FMSC food has reached nearly 70 countries in their history.

What You Can Do:

We are looking for volunteers and financial partners to help with all stages of this event. Volunteers can sign up for two hour shifts, and in each shift a volunteer will pack roughly 227 meals, or $50 worth of meals at a cost of 22 cents per meal. Sonship Study: Maturing in Christ
Sep
14
to Sep 15

Sonship Study: Maturing in Christ

It is the purpose of the Sonship Studies to explore and reaffirm a tender sonship connection with God.

  • This connection occurs when we are being led by the Spirit's deliberate engagement with us to abide in Christ as sons (and daughters) and through facilitated discussions focusing on God's Word.

  • As Christians, when the intimate relationship we were intended to have with our Creator is absent or lacking, it is an indication our identity has been stolen.

  • We live as orphans feeling unloved, rather than true sons or daughters regarded with great affection by a heavenly Father.

It is vital that this study be approached corporately, with time and flexibility to wrestle head knowledge into heart identity. Sonship Studies are not intended to be “marketed” or to be circulated as a prepackaged curriculum. It is free from completion timeframes, workbooks, and DVDs, hence the training requirement. Like the parable of the farmer scattering seed, God's Word is sown into our minds, the Spirit transforms our thinking while engaging our hearts. A "huge harvest" is produced when His truth is passed down relationally, generation to generation, through people who have participated in a Sonship Study or, at least, who have done a group training together with others, resulting in spiritual growth and maturity.

Attendance to both the Saturday (9:30 am - 5:30 pm) and Sunday (3:00 pm - 5:30 pm) sessions is necessary. This is a FREE event; registration is required.

Topic: CarePortal Story & Success

CarePortal has a great story about its pilot program started in Pima County in 2016. Did you know that the citywide Church has made a significant impact within the county's foster care system? The changes and success caught the attention of state leaders, including Governor Doug Ducey. The impact was enough to bring Governor Ducey to Tucson to meet with various Christian pastors! We will let you know what he had to say.

Join us to hear testimonies from church leaders who are on the front lines. Featured speaker is Pauline Machiche, Pima County Regional Director of Department of Child Safety, who will share with us about DCS-Church Partnerships and how they are helping hurting families.

Tucson Ministry Alliance is a collaborative effort of various ministries in our city including Community Renewal and J17Ministries. We meet together, eat together, learn together, and pray together, asking God to use us - together - to change our city, one issue at a time.
