Christmas Concert Fundraiser

Join us for our eventful Christmas Concert Fundraiser. This is a fundraiser for the Southern Arizona Women’s Chorus, Hope City Church, and Via de Dios.

As the premier women's chorus of Tucson, the chorus strives to sing quality music that showcases the women's voices and fulfills their desire to entertain. Performances have included such music as the late Baroque period "Missa de Profunctis" on the same program as Broadway medleys, or Spanish folksongs and jazzy samba. The music is extremely diverse and sometimes very difficult. However, the women find that learning the music in a fun and encouraging environment keeps them coming back for more. Their reward is realizing something previously thought impossible. Singing with this chorus provides a deep sense of accomplishment and a sense of belonging that comes from the caring and support these women extend to each other.

Tickets are just $20 at the door, or can be purchased in advance. https://www.viadedios.org/product-page/christmas-concert-fundraiser-12-14-19

Founded in 1987, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God's children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: volunteers hand-pack meals specially formulated for malnourished children, and FMSC sends them to partners around the world where they're used to operate orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty. FMSC food has reached nearly 70 countries in their history.

What You Can Do:

We are looking for volunteers and financial partners to help with all stages of this event. Volunteers can sign up for two hour shifts, and in each shift a volunteer will pack roughly 227 meals, or $50 worth of meals at a cost of 22 cents per meal. Financial sponsorship opportunities are available for individuals or organizations at all levels.

"Medication and Aging: More is Not Better" Course

As we age, medications that were previously prescribed may not be appropriate or may need a reduced dose. New medications must be added with care. As our anatomy and physiology change, our reaction to medications also changes. As we age, we tend to accumulate more medications from more prescribers. Medications themselves can be a cause of illness and premature death. By knowing more about how medications can negatively affect our health, and how their interaction with each other can cause problems, we may prevent avoidable complications and keep ourselves healthier.

Dr. Domer is a Board Certified Geriatrician with extensive experience in caring for patients with dementia. He received his medical degree from University of Cincinnati - College of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Dr. Domer specializes in the unique health needs of the older generation, including chronic diseases, nutritional problems, skin ailments, cognitive loss, memory impairment, adverse effects of medications, immobility and balances issues.

Trauma and the Faith Community

Trauma-Informed Care; Adverse Childhood Experiences; Building Resilience.

Understanding these terms are important for everyone - especially those in the Faith Community. Research and science are giving us a different lens to see the people that are all around us. It helps us ask the question "What happened to you?" vs "What is wrong with you?" It is about relationship and compassion. It is about understanding people. It is about seeing their needs through their behaviors. It is about how we - God's Church - can help.

Our Keynote Speaker is Dr. Franki Appleby. With 25 years in the mental health field, Dr. Franki is a minister-teacher, author, lecturer, educator, and conference speaker specializing on the subjects of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Trauma-Informed Care.

Dr. Appleby will be joined by main session speakers: Terrilyn Miller, Director of Faith, Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family; and Rebecca Hamlin, LCSW - Soul Space

Cost is $35 per person and includes lunch and three breakout sessions. Registration will close October 28. https://4tucson.regfox.com/education-trauma-and-the-faith-community-nov-2019

Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem
Oct

8:00 AM08:00

Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem

On the first Sunday of every October, hundreds of millions of people around the world join together to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Begun in 2002 in meetings with leading political and religious leaders from Israel and the United States, this is now the largest prayer movement of its kind, with over 1,400 key leaders within the Evangelical Christian world lending their active support. In just a few years, this event has quickly become the largest Israel-focused prayer event in history. We set aside this one day each year to raise global awareness and intercession for God's purposes in Israel, knowing that this hour in history is critical and our authority in prayer is great. Though we pray every day for Israel, we seek on this day to unite believers around the world in raising a cry to Heaven on behalf of this troubled, but strategic land and its people. We believe in God's promises for His beloved nation and fervently pray to hasten the day when He brings fulfillment to His word.

Course dates, weekly on Thursdays:

  • October 3

  • October 10

  • October 17

  • October 24

  • October 31

  • November 7

This class will be an in-depth exploration of the wisdom of Teilhard De Chardin, Meister Eckhart, St. Francis of Assisi, and Thomas Merton, and will study mtheysticism that leads us to living life with purpose and meaning. We will go into the depths of our inner soul and its importance of how we live our lives, and into the depths of the society we live in and how it can distract us from our inner journey. We will discern the many illusions that keep us from renewing our lives and moving forward into a brighter future. We will explore in depth the concept of God and how it can lead us to our inner soul or if misunderstood can hinder the process. Overall, we will explore the question in depth of "How then shall we live" in a world that appears to be collapsing? All six classes are connected to each other as one leads to the other. I ask those who want to attend to bring your authenticity, your hearts and minds, and your inner jewels with you as they will be important in our "exploration of who we really are".

Cost is $60; RSVP is requested, https://www.viadedios.org/product-page/the-art-of-contemplation

Topic: Leading the Charge for Change

Join us as we explore this topic, with speaker Bud Brown. But there are key understandings and skills that must be used to lead healthy necessary change. Change will always be hard and painful and there are ways to insure that the change is worth the pain.
